Velo Velo Shop took a team down for the race and let me tag along with them which was I can’t thank them enough for. In all about 30 people from Mexico City made it to Guadalajara, which is a great city - cheap beer, good food, beautiful, friendly people and a laid back feel.
Velo Velo Shop se trajo a su equipo a la carrera y me permitieron acompañarlos, por lo cual me sentí muy agradecido. En total unas 30 personas de la Cuidad de Mexico llegaron a Guadalajara, que me pareció una gran ciudad — hay cerveza barata, buena comida, gente bella y amigable, y un ambiente muy relajado.
The race was an odd one, a really tight, technical and short circuit. Every heat had 4 or 5 people in it and the top two went through to the next round. It meant having to race mistake-free over and over again. I think there were two broken bones on the day and a couple more falls.
Esta fue una curiosa carrera — un circuito muy apretado, tecnico, y corto. Cada heat tenía 4 o 5 personas y los mejores dos pasaban a la proxima ronda. Esto significó tener que correr sin fallas una y otra vez. Hubo dos huesos rotos y varias caídas ese día.
I managed to win all my heats comfortably and was pretty confident going in to the final. The final turned out to be a really full on race between myself and second place. I was stuck in second for at the start and couldn’t get past because the course was so tight. I finally squeezed through but couldn’t open a gap. I sprinted out of every corner to keep him behind and could feel the tyres almost losing grip all the time. I managed to keep him behind me through the last corners by taking slower but more defensive lines and got across the line in first. A pretty hectic final but at least the crowd enjoyed it.
Logre ganar todos mis heats cómodamente, y estaba bastante confiado entrando a la final. La final resultó ser una carrera muy reñida entre el segundo lugar y yo. Me atore en segundo lugar en el arranque, y no podía rebasar por lo apretado del circuito. Por fin y a penas lo pude rebasar, pero me costaba trabajo abrirle distancia. Arrancaba fuera de cada curva para mantenerlo atrás pero todo el rato sentía las llantas queriendo perder contacto con el concreto. Logre mantenerlo atrás las últimas curvas tomando líneas quizás más lentas pero más defensivas y cruce la línea primero. Fue una final muy ajetreada pero gustó mucho a los espectadores.
Edgardo my Leader Bikes Mexico team mate came in third which is awesome. Plumas from Mexico City won the female category. Mexico City showed up and delivered!
Edgardo, mi compañero de Leader Bikes Mexico, llego tercero que me pareció excelente. Y Plumas, también de la Cd. de México, ganó la categoría femenil. El D.F. llegó a conquistar!
